Tempered for success | ‘Teka’ takes on new role with O’Brien
Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa at O’Brien Autoglass
What started as just a conversation has transformed into a new journey for NRLW Bulldogs co-captain Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa who after a careers course with Bulldogs Careers Coach Renee Liddy decided to reach out about completing an apprenticeship with O’Brien Autoglass. Fast forward four months later and Angelina is now a level one tech, fixing chipped glass and replacing entire windscreens singlehandedly at an O’Brien auto-shop.
Despite numerous on-field accolades and achievements including representing the Kiwi Ferns and being named co-captain of the Bulldogs NRLW side, Angelina highlights the financial security of working at O’Brien as a key benefit she’s found in pursuing a career off the field. Angelina has always been interested in learning a skilled trade, so taking on an apprenticeship with O’Brien was like smashing two windshields with one stone.
“Footy’s not forever so just having that stability to fall back on post-career I think it’s really important,” Katoa said.
Angelina will run out as co-captain and starting prop for the Bulldogs in Round 1 of the 2026 NRLW season this weekend in the clash with New Zealand Warriors in Waikato.
