Shaping the future: Yasmin Meakes finds her ‘more’ with Future Fierce

'Doing more' isn’t just about putting in extras at training or staying back for one more drill. Doing more is about the life extras, the things that fill your cup as a person, not just as a player. Professional athletes who do more with their stories, passions and purpose become more as a result.

Yasmin’s Story

For Yasmin Meakes, that search for ‘more’ extended beyond the football field. A proud representative of the Newcastle Knights, Australian Jillaroos, and NSW Sky Blues, Meakes has built a career defined by discipline, resilience and on-field success. But perhaps her greatest growth has come from what she does away from the spotlight.

Yasmin found her ‘more’ in shaping the next generation, both in the classroom, and on the footy field. Thriving in her role as a teacher at Newcastle High School, she spends her days educating young minds, helping students grow not only academically but personally. For Yasmin, teaching isn’t separate from sport; it’s an extension of it. The same leadership, patience and accountability required in elite rugby league are poured into her classroom.

Alongside fellow NRLW star Olivia Higgins, Yasmin still felt called to do more. Together, the two joined forces to create Future Fierce Academy, a coaching and mentoring program designed to bridge the gap for young people ready to try something new. Through sport, leadership and genuine connection, the academy provides a space for growth, on and off the field.

“From backyard footy to the NRLW, we know what it’s like to chase a dream, push through setbacks, and back ourselves every step of the way. We’re passionate about showing girls what’s possible when you believe in yourself and have someone in your corner.”

“We saw too many people lacking confidence, especially girls who didn’t know where or how to start. We started Future Fierce Academy to create a space where they could build belief, skills and connections with no judgment and all heart.”

Through Future Fierce, Yasmin has found her ‘more’ in helping shape the future across New South Wales. By mentoring the next generation, she has fortified her own wellbeing and happiness, regardless of performance, scorelines or results.

Because ‘doing more’ isn’t about statistics.

It’s about significance.

And in finding her ‘more,’ Yasmin Meakes is shaping the future, one classroom, one training session, and one young life at a time.
