League Ahead is pleased to announce the appointment of Cliff Thompson as General Manager of Wellbeing (Systems and Programs).
With valuable experience from his years as New Zealand Warriors Wellbeing Manager and Head of Wellbeing and Education with New Zealand Rugby League, Cliff brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and expertise to the League Ahead team.
As General Manager of Wellbeing, Cliff will be tasked with the important responsibility of overseeing and managing League Ahead’s numerous wellbeing programs and supporting the work of Wellbeing Managers across the NRL and NRLW as they deliver vital support to players within clubs.
League Ahead CEO Justine Whipper was delighted with Cliff’s appointment. “Cliff brings a deep understanding of the wellbeing role in rugby league, a genuine commitment to keeping players at the centre of every decision, and a strong ability to connect and align key stakeholders on the importance of wellbeing as the foundation for a players personal and professional growth. We are thrilled to have him on the team.” Whipper said.
Cliff expressed his excitement at the role with League Ahead and looks forward to building upon the foundation laid in the wellbeing space by those who came before him.
“This is an opportunity to bring what I can to [the wellbeing] space from my skillset and do something, not new, but rather build upon, add to and refine what has gone before.” Thompson said.
“I’m excited about the prospect of working not just with the players, but for the players, alongside our amazing team at League Ahead and the incredible club wellbeing staff, to advocate for what ‘great’ looks like in the lives of our athletes off the field.”
